Blow suffers ANC as court dismisses cadre deployment appeal
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The High Court in Johannesburg has dismissed the ANC's application for leave to appeal against a judgment that found the party guilty of civil contempt over cadre deployment records.

The party was ordered to provide unchanged records from 2013 to 2021, which include emails and social media communications.
This was when President Cyril Ramaphosa was the deputy president of the ANC.
The court found that the ANC, alongside Fikile Mbalula and Thapelo Masilela, failed to comply with a previous court order requiring them to release critical documents related to cadre deployment.
And, that the party failed to provide any new substantive evidence or grounds that could lead another court to reach a different decision.
The DA, which was a respondent in the matter, described the ruling as a victory for transparency and accountability.
"This ruling marks a decisive blow to the ANC’s efforts to shield its corrupt cadre deployment network from public scrutiny and further exposes the party’s role in facilitating state capture," said spokesperson Willie Aucamp.
"The DA has long held that cadre deployment is at the heart of the ANC’s system of corruption and state capture. We urge the ANC to stop its stalingrad tactics and comply fully with the court's orders."
"As a key participant in the Government of National Unity (GNU), the DA is committed to holding the ANC accountable for its actions and advocating for reforms that prioritise transparency and integrity within our governance structures," said Aucamp.
The ANC was ordered to pay all legal costs on a punitive scale.
The party is also yet to respond to the court ruling.
