On Tuesday, police said the suspect had been arrested in connection with the deaths of two children, aged four and seven, and two other people.

In their statement, police said the suspects allegedly shot six people and burned a home where two girls were sleeping in Soshanguve on Sunday, 2 June.

Two of those who were shot succumbed to the gunshot wounds while the other four were taken to a medical facility for treatment.

The man was arrested the following Sunday.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority’s spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, the man is a Zimbabwean national.

She said the man was arrested on charges relating to other alleged crimes and is yet to be linked to the murder of the two girls.

“He’s facing a charge of murder, five counts of attempted murder, two counts of arson, and being in the country illegally.”

An identity parade will be conducted to confirm or exclude the suspect from the murder of the Soshanguve siblings.

"He has not been linked to the murder of the two children. However, investigations are ongoing. If investigations link him to the murder of the two children, then the charges of murder will be added on top of the murder charge that he is already facing."

The matter returns to court on the 19th of July.
