The suspects were wanted for multiple ATM bombings and other serious crimes in Gauteng and surrounding provinces.

A group of ten suspects, aged between 22 and 35, attempted to bomb an ATM on Thursday morning.

Law enforcement confirmed that five suspects fled the scene, while two were arrested.

“This is a joint effort between police, private security, and businesses, along with intelligence and organised crime units. We're working together to dismantle these syndicates involved in ATM bombings,” SAPS Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection Shadrack Sibiya Sibiya said.

South Africa recorded 41 ATM bombings between January and March.

“We have our intelligence in place, and our officers are collaborating with private security, including the JMPD, to clamp down on this issue,” Sibiya added.

One firearm was recovered at the scene, with Sibiya saying that a rifle was still missing, as five suspects managed to escape.
