Lesufi: Tembisa Hospital officials remain on precautionary suspension
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi says high-ranking officials implicated in fraud and corruption at Tembisa Hospital remain on precautionary suspension.

This comes as the Special Investigative Unit continues to probe the alleged irregular awarding of tenders to more than 200 service providers by the hospital supply chain management.
Last year, whistle-blower Babita Deokaran was assassinated outside her home after she flagged irregular tenders worth more than R850 million.
The CFO at the Gauteng Department of Health, Lerato Madyo, and Tembisa Hospital CEO, Dr Ashley Mthunzi, were eventually placed on precautionary suspension.
Speaking during a question and answer session in the Gauteng legislature on Tuesday, Lesufi said the two disciplinary hearings are being finalised.
“The process might be viewed as slow. However, it is important to note that the Office of the Premier and the Gauteng Department of Health and Wellness always seek to adhere with the processes in line with the disciplinary code and procedures for the public service. This will assist in eliminating any possible complaints and unnecessary delays.”
Lesufi said the provincial government is doing its best to fast-track the investigations while ensuring the safety of witnesses.
“The Special Investigating Unit is constantly reminded to ensure that the Department of Justice fast-tracks its processes and to ensure that all the necessary documents are finalised and submitted for the consideration of the president.
“There was an urgent need for us to protect the witnesses, and they are provided with the necessary support so that we can conclude this matter.”
