Temporary shutdown of Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
The City of Tshwane has announced the temporary shutdown of the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant due to an ongoing power failure experienced in Zithobeni area, where the water treatment plant is situated.

"The shutdown coincided with an ongoing maintenance of raw water pumps, and due to the experienced power failure, the raw water pumps have been impacted", says Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.
"The one pump that was being serviced has not been completed and remains untested. This situation will be monitored closely and as soon as the power is back, the plant together with the raw water pump will be switched on while the other pump which is undergoing a maintenance will be attended to completed and be tested."
Mashigo adds that high- and low-laying areas feeding from the treatment plant will experience water interruptions.
"At this stage, the water quality may be affected due to low levels of the reservoirs."
The affected areas in the Region 7 include Bronkhorstspruit Town, Ekandustria, Ekangala, Rethabiseng, Riamarpark, Zithobeni and Thembisile Hani Local Municipality (cross-border water supply).
