Matlala and two others, Musa Kekana (35) and Floyd Mabusela (47), face attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder charges linked to the attack on Thobejane.

Due to a power outage, the matter was postponed until next Friday for a formal bail hearing.

In a statement on Tuesday, Thobejane said she had been living with post-traumatic stress disorder for almost two years since she was ambushed in Sandton.

“One of the hardest parts of this entire experience has been facing the people who were with me that night, the ones who were hurt alongside me. I’ve had to find the strength to express my sorrow to the families, and to live with the pain that they were affected because of a situation tied to me.”

She thanked her family and all those who supported her through the experience, adding that she was finding it in herself to move past the experience and “rebuild”.

In recent weeks, News24 has published a series of investigative reports implicating Matlala in a questionable R360 million tender with the South African Police Service.

The 49-year-old has previously been linked to irregular multi-million-rand government tenders, including the Tembisa Hospital looting that led to the assassination of whistleblower Babita Deokaran in August 2021.
