Tears and heartfelt tributes marked the memorial service of late journalist Sibusiso Aserie Ndlovu and his partner Zodwa Mdhluli, held in Pretoria on Wednesday.

The couple went missing on 18 February 2025, and their remains were only confirmed last month following DNA testing after their bodies were discovered in a veld near Rust de Winter, Limpopo.
Their son, Treasure Mdhluli, delivered an emotional tribute, describing his parents as people who loved unconditionally.
“No matter how wrong I would have been, I always felt their love,” said Treasure.
“Even on days when I wanted to stay on my own, they would move from Kwa-Mhlanga, come pick me up in Tembisa or Daveyton, and make sure I spent the holidays with family. It’s very hard, but I have to stay strong, given that I’m the older sibling. I appreciate the support from everyone—this all shows the love they gave was returned.”
Friends and family gathered to celebrate the lives of the couple, remembering their generosity, warmth, and commitment to family.
Family spokesperson and musician Vusi Mahlasela reflected on Ndlovu’s character, calling him an energetic and dependable man deeply loved by his community and colleagues.
“Sbusiso was a very energetic character… you’d send him to do something, and he’d do it with justice,” Mahlasela said.
“I’ll miss his hand, his advice, his love. He was like a J. Cole character—full of energy and respect. My family knew that when Busiso was around, everything was okay.”
Mahlasela also paid tribute to Mdhluli, describing her as a respectful and supportive partner.
“She was so respectful and supported Sibusiso in everything. Even when we were going far or for long, she trusted he was with his uncle helping out.”
Zodwa Mdhluli will be laid to rest on Friday in Mahushu, Hazyview, while Sibusiso Ndlovu will be buried on Saturday in Mahlabathini New Stands, Kwa-Mhlanga.
