Speaking to Jacaranda FM's Breakfast with Martin Bester on Friday, Mokgalapa said the resolution was adopted by council on Thursday.

The contract was originally going to be terminated at the end of June.

"The GladAfrica contract has been terminated immediately, the council said yesterday (Thursday) and accepted my recommendations.

"So, as we speak today (Friday) the city manager will be instructing all the city departments that the work with GladAfrica has been completed and it will be just winding down," Mokgalapa said.

The mayor says he is happy that the controversial contract saga has ended and that he can now focus on bringing service delivery to the people of Tshwane.

"I'm happy because I've never been given an opportunity and space to talk about my vision for Tshwane. It is also been about GladAfrica so I've buried this thing once and for all."

Mokgalapa added that the termination of the contract will not have an impact on service delivery, as GladAfrica will complete outstanding work while the city tries to find another service provider.

In January, the Auditor-General (AG) confirmed that the contract was irregular and that the city had then already paid over R300 million to the consultancy firm.

The original value of the contract was R12 billion.

It was also found that the tender didn't comply with supply chain management regulations or the constitution.
