Tshwane ‘at difficult stage’ with reservoirs slowly filling up

Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink has urged residents to continue using water sparingly while reservoirs are filling up.

The city is in the process of restoring water supply to all areas.

Taps ran dry in several areas of the city when Rand Water had to fix a major water leak on their B8 pipeline between the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant, while an electricity interruption at the Mapleton Booster Pumping Station added to the woes.

Large parts of Pretoria East and Mamelodi were still without water on Tuesday morning.

“Rand Water has since addressed most of those problems including cable theft, breakdowns and so forth and now we are at a very difficult stage where reservoirs are slowly filling up,” said Brink.

“We plead with residents in the affected areas to please use water sparingly, we will take every possible measure to make sure that those reservoirs reach a critical level so we can stabilise the water supply.

“It is important to know that we are now dealing with the legacy of the breakdown of our main supplier Rand Water. We are also providing water tankers; the schedules are being worked on and communicated to ward councilors as best we can.”

Meanwhile, Brink said significant progress has also been made in erecting monopoles to replace pylons that had collapsed last week.

“I know that large parts of Soshanguve, Centurion are affected. Until we can get that 132 KV line stabilised, unfortunately that is what we have, also stage 6 load shedding wreaks havoc with our electricity distribution to our network. I want to give assurance that all the attention of the political offices and of the city management is on solving the current water and electricity crises in the city.”
