Tshwane dismisses power outage alert as ‘fake’

The City of Tshwane has dismissed claims of a scheduled power outage for Friday, 13 June.

According to the message, a transformer will be shut down, impacting residents, businesses, and the environment.
Residents and businesses are told to make urgent preparations to minimise disruption.
In a statement, the city assured residents that the message does not originate from any of its official departments.
“The city communicates planned and unplanned service interruptions through the following official channels: City of Tshwane website, Official City of Tshwane Facebook and X accounts, Official media alert or statement on an official City of Tshwane letterhead, Official dear resident letter on an official City of Tshwane letterhead, City of Tshwane WhatsApp channels.
“We urge residents to remain vigilant of such fake news. Anyone who encounters suspicious communique or persons impersonating city officials is encouraged to report them immediately to the Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department at 012 358 7095/6 for verification and investigation.”
