Tshwane mayor agrees to pay back R270k owed to city

Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya has agreed to repay about R270,000 she owed the city.

This will be Moya's second repayment to Tshwane, following a R10,000 repayment she had to make for an international trip that Moya did not undertake.
The DA said they have been asking Moya about the repayment since January.
According to the DA, most officials who received these undue payments have already paid back the money or made payment arrangements with the City.
"In June, she committed to providing the information, but has since ignored correspondence from the DA on the matter," said DA Tshwane spokesperson on Finance, Jacqui Uys.
“Yesterday, the DA issued a press statement on the matter, and today we received a letter from Mayor Moya confirming that she is one of the officials who haven’t yet paid back undue salary payments from the city.
"It is unfortunate that Mayor Moya had to be prompted publicly to do what is right, instead of setting an example on her own accord."
Uys said the DA will continue monitoring the matter to ensure payments are made.
