Tshwane warns of possible violent protests in Pretoria West

The City of Tshwane warned of potentially violent and unplanned protests in the Pretoria West area on Monday.

MMC for Community Safety Grandi Theunissen says he received various threats from protesters, stating that they are going to make barricades, burn tyres, use petrol bomb stones and bricks and damage electricity connections in the area.
In a statement released by Theunissen, the protesters will allegedly attack businesses and the Hercules police station.
Theunissen warned that the Tshwane metro police officers will take action against the protesters.
"Areas which might be affected include Fortsig Tshwane electrical depot, Suiderberg, Mountain View, Hercules, Claremont, Booysens, Kirkney and Lotus Gardens.
"In response to the recent unlawful protests, the City reaffirms its commitment to upholding law and order. We will not tolerate any criminal behaviour, and TMPD will take strong action against offenders," read the statement.
Residents are encouraged to be cautious in these areas and streets:
• The area of Booysens to the North of van der Hoff Road towards the Witwatersberg mountain
• Bremer street
• Attie street
• Hjalmer street
• Theo Slabbert street
• Richardsbay Road
• Daspoort tunnel
• Van der Hoff Road
