Tshwane implements water restrictions
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The City of Tshwane has implemented water restrictions across all its municipalities.

This comes after Rand Water, the utility providing water to most Gauteng municipalities, took a decision that all Tshwane meters would be restricted by 20%, in order to manage resevoir levels.
Although restrictions are applicable throughout Tshwane, an earnest request has been made to residents of Soshanguve, Mabopane, Ga-Rankuwa and Winterveld to save water, or face shortages.
Rand Water spokesperson Justice Mohale says this is standard procedure, especially when water consumption is high.
"Rand Water has decided to reduce the water supply to the Tshwane municipality because of the high consumption in the municipality."
"This is the standard procedure, especially at this time where the weather conditions are becoming warmer and the water consumption is becoming higher," he says.
The Tshwane municipality has meanwhile urged its consumers to apply the following measures, which could help save water.
* Use grey water for watering gardens and flushing toilets
*Report water leaks and burst pipes
*Install water-saving devices
* Where possible, install a low-flow showerhead and tap aerators
* Use a dual-flush toilet cistern
* Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in the garden
* Water gardens before 06:00 or after 18:00 and only when necessary
* Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios
*Collect rainwater for re-use in the garden or for washing the car
* Cover the swimming pool to reduce evaporation
* Take a shower rather than a bath
* Close a running tap while brushing teeth or shaving
* Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks
