Tshwane welcomes arrest of ‘thieving’ officials
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
The City of Tshwane has welcomed the arrest of three officials allegedly involved in the theft of a transformer valued at R7 million.

They were arrested in Laudium, southwest of the city, on Tuesday.
The latest arrests were part of an ongoing investigation, which began in November, when 11 suspects were arrested for the transformer theft.
The 10 suspects, who were subcontractors, were released after they could not be linked to the crime.
The remaining suspect, an employee of the municipality, remained behind bars and has since made several court appearances and is due back in court in August.
Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo says the incident severely compromised the city's power infrastructure.
"Criminal acts such as theft and sabotage not only endanger public safety but also place unnecessary strain on municipal resources and disrupt essential services.
"These arrests represent an important step towards ensuring accountability and deterrence. Tshwane remains committed to working closely with law enforcement and security agencies to safeguard its critical infrastructure.
"Criminal acts targeting public assets will be met with the full force of the law. Our residents deserve uninterrupted services and infrastructure that is secure from deliberate damage and sabotage."
