The EFF in Tshwane recently raised concern about the dilapidated state of the Tshwane Events Centre, which normally houses the IEC’s results centre during elections.

The country is due to go to the polls in 2024.

The facility, which has been plundered by vandals, was recently transferred back to the city from its former owner, the Tshwane Business and Agricultural Chamber.

Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the city aims to turn the grounds into a mixed-use commercial precinct.

“For the commercial precinct to be realised, some land preparation has to take place, which includes rezoning. Once the city’s planning department has approved the rezoning, a developer will be brought on board to conceptualise a vision for the precinct.

"The objective of the city is to commercialise that land and optimise its revenue value in terms of rentals," said Mashigo.
