TUT students protest over new NSFAS payment system
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) management says it is in talks with the Student Representative Council (SRC) on Monday amid protests against the new National Student Financial Aid (NSFAS) payment system.

Last year, NSFAS started the pilot phase of its Direct Payment of student allowances through their bank card at TVET colleges.
Last week, NSFAS forged ahead with the implementation of the new payment method which has sparked student protests.
It is reported that the students are unhappy with the new system as it is giving problems.
Previously, NSFAS paid student allowances through the financial divisions of all universities.
“The Tshwane University of Technology is aware of sporadic student protests at some of our campuses regarding the new NSFAS payment system".
“At this midpoint and pivotal juncture in the academic year, the University calls upon all stakeholders to do everything in their power to safeguard the academic project” says spokesperson, Phaphama Tshisikhawe.
