Two dead in Woodmead shooting as music industry mourns Amapiano pioneer

Police in Gauteng are searching for an unknown number of suspects who shot and killed two people in Woodmead in the early hours of Sunday.

A third person was wounded in the shooting, which reportedly claimed the life of Amapiano pioneer DJ Sumbody. 


Police say the bodies of two people, riddled with gunshot wounds, were found inside a VW Golf. 


The third victim was taken to the nearest hospital for treatment after also sustaining gunshot wounds.


Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says they were informed of the shooting just after midnight.


"The incident took place at the corner of Woodmead Drive and Woodland Drive at approximately 00:30. Upon arrival at the scene, police found two people inside a VW Golf with gunshot wounds. Both victims, a driver, and a passenger were certified dead on the scene. It was reported that the third victim, who was driving a BMW X5, was taken to the nearest medical care center after sustaining gunshot wounds.


"The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage."
