The arrests follow a complaint by a company on Saturday.

It alleges that an employee had been extorted by the officers who allegedly solicited an R8,000 bribe.

The officers apparently accused the company driver of fleeing the scene of an accident.

Acting on the tip-off, the JMPD Internal Affairs unit tracked the vehicle to a petrol station in Parktown.

The officers were found with R5,340 cash and could not explain the money, leading investigators to believe that it was a solicited bribe.

"The arrest of these two officers sends a clear message: there is no place for corruption within the JMPD. We urge the public to continue reporting any suspicious activities," said JMPD Chief of Police Commissioner Patrick Jaca.
