Two malls ransacked in Mamelodi as riots, looting spread to Tshwane

Two shopping malls in Mamelodi have been looted as the protests continues to spread across Tshwane.

Denlyn and Mamelodi Mall were the latest to be looted on Monday night.
The city's spokesperson Sipho Stuurman says law enforcement remains on high alert.
"Reports indicate that Denlyn Shopping Centre and Mamelodi Mall were the main targets for the criminals who looted some of the shops.
"Our Tshwane Metro Police Department joined the South African Police Service in responding to the incidents to prevent major destruction of property and protect residents in the area."
Community policing forums are urged to work closely with the police.
"We would also like to acknowledge all the community groups, CPFs, and private security agencies that have been working with law enforcement to support them in their duties.
"Communities across the city have been working together to stand up against this criminality," adds Stuurman.
Tshwane metro police have been dispatched to monitor volatile areas such as Atteridgeville, Soshanguve, Mabopane and Ga-Rankuwa.
