Two nabbed for impersonating police officers

Two suspects are expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on charges of impersonating a police officer.

The two men were arrested on the N12 in Bekkersdal, west of Johannesburg on Monday.
Gauteng Department of Community Safety spokesperson Ofentse Morwane says the cops pulled the stopped the suspects during a routine operation.
While the driver was taking out his license, an officer spotted a police identity card in the driver’s wallet.
“The officers asked the driver and the passenger if they were members of the South African Police Service, and they both confirmed to be police officers,” says Morwane.
“Upon examining the identity card closely, the officers found that it was tempered with and fraudulent. The officers immediately arrested the two male suspects. They are detained at Bekkersdal Police Station.”
The duo are facing charges of impersonating police officers and fraud.
