The University of Johannesburg's (UJ) Vice-Chancellor, Ihron Rensburg says the lowest point in his time at the university, was the death of a parent during a stampede in 2012.

Rensburg has been reflecting on his time at UJ, with his term coming to an end in January next year.

Chairperson of the UJ Council, Roy Marcus says the selection committee is looking for an exceptional candidate to replace Rensburg, who has led the institution from inception.

"We've got a tight timeline, but the committee also suggested that we should not rush the job - that unless we find suitable candidates to present to council for a short list, we should take our time and find the correct people who will meet the profile of a very demanding job," says Marcus.

Rensburg says his lowest point as vice chancellor was the registration stampede in 2012.

"We self-examined and today we have a situation where we do not have a queue at UJ for late applications," says Rensburg.
