Umgeni Water spokesperson, Shami Harichunder says the claims are false and are designed to cause public panic. He says the bulk of drinking water is monitored by experts on a weekly basis.
"The water that goes through the Durban Heights Treatment Plant goes through a rigorous process of quality checking," he said.
"Every day water quality is sampled and we have found no compromise in water quality in any way, in fact, water from the Durban Heights plant is more than a hundred percent safe for drinking," Harichunder said.
