Umalusi approves 2019 matric results
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
It is all system go as the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training (Umalusi) has approved the release of the 2019 matric results.

Umalusi briefed the media on Friday in Pretoria and while it gave the go-ahead for marks to be released next week, the council said the Department of Basic Education (DBE) must block the results of the matriculants implicated in dishonesty as well as any results from unregistered centres.
The body responsible for the production and issuing of matric certificates says there were no systemic irregularities in the 2019 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.

Umalusi's Professor John Volmink says although there were no exam papers leaked, that does not mean there wasn't any dishonesty.
“There may have been some acts of dishonesty here, but nothing systemic,” said Volmink.
"We are particularly pleased with that and we would like to commend the Department for doing a sterling job in this regard as far as the NSC is concerned.”
Umalusi CEO, Dr Mafu Rakometsi said no adjustments were made in 70% of matric subjects.
The marks for subjects including mathematics, mathematical literacy, isiZulu, accounting, and economics remained unchanged.
“We apply the same criteria in appraising the quality of all assessment bodies,” he says.
