The University of Limpopo says it has limited control over the security of students who do not live on campus.

This comes after a 24-year-old student was stabbed to death while walking with his friend back to their off-campus residence in the early hours of Sunday.
They were accosted by three suspects on their way from attending a university function.
According to the police, one of the suspects allegedly produced a sharp object and stabbed the victim after he fought back.
"The advice we often give by student affairs is leave the campus if you don't stay here after 06:00 or from 06:00 onward," said the university spokesperson Victor Kgomoeswana.
"And we are not blaming, we can't aportion blame here. I'm sure if you are done partying the first thing you want to do is go home or wherever you might be able to rest."
The two suspects, Thapelo Seabi (23) and 25-year-old Mack Maphakga appeared in the Mankweng Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
The third suspect will appear on 20 May as he still receiving medical attention in the Mankweng hospital.
