US embassy mum on Lana Marks assassination reports
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
The United States embassy has declined to comment on reports that Iran is plotting to assassinate its ambassador to South Africa, Lana Marks.

Politico reports that US intelligence has been aware of the alleged plot and that the details of the plot have become more specific in recent weeks.
Marks, who reportedly has a close relationship with President Donald Trump, was sworn in as an ambassador in October last year.
It is not clear why she would be a target but there is speculation that it could be in retaliation for the death of top Iranian General Qassem Soleimani.
Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike in January.
