VBS critic gunned down

Limpopo Premier Chupu Mathabatha has expressed his shock over the killing of yet another VBS Mutual Bank critic.

South African Municipal Workers' Union (SAMWU) Provincial Deputy Secretary Ronald Mani was gunned down near Thohoyandou on Wednesday night.
This comes a week after yet another shooting of the mutual bank critic and unionist, Tshililo Tshimangadzo Masetho, who is currently recovering in hospital.
Masetho was shot at his home in the same Vhembe Region.
Spokesperson for the premier's office, Kenny Mathivha, says the provincial police commissioner has dispatched a high-level team to investigate the latest killing.
“He has been in Vhembe since last night to make sure there is no stone left unturned,” says Mathivha.
Mathivha adds the office of the premier is aware of the talks that Mani was an influential critic of the VBS scandal.
However, he urges communities to allow police to conduct their investigation and determine whether the killing is connected to the VBS scandal or a criminal element.
Police in the province could not be reached for comment by Thursday morning.
