VhaVenda king appointment unlawful - SCA
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
The Supreme Court of Appeal set aside former President Jacob Zuma's decision to appoint Toni Mphephu-Ramabulana as VhaVenda King on Friday.

The SCA found that the appointment was unconstitutional and illegal.
This follows Princess Masindi Mphephu decision to approach the High Court in Thohoyandou for an interdict to stop the coronation of Mphephu-Ramabulana, which she was later granted pending the outcome of a legal challenge.

In a statement, Limpopo premier Stan Mathabatha said he would study the judgment before decision on a course of action.
"The long drawn battle of this throne between him and Princess Masindi Mphephu has been raging for the past many years.
"We will study the entire judgment and act accordingly with the prescripts of the law. The president who accordingly appoints Kings will also advice on the matter."
Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Zweli Mkhize has also noted the judgement.
"He's studying the judgment and will comment in detail at a later stage,” said the ministry's spokesperson Musa Zondi.
