VW Polo Sedans recalled over faulty seat belts
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued a safety-critical recall notice for an additional 253 Volkswagen Polo Sedan vehicles following a seat belt defect that could put motorists’ lives at risk.

Volkswagen of South Africa (VWSA) informed the NCC that the affected vehicles — made available for sale from 11 August 2022 — may have incorrectly fitted seat belts on both the driver and front passenger sides.
This follows a similar recall issued on Thursday last week, which affected 18 vehicles with belt webbing mix-ups.
The latest recall identifies a specific fault with the rear right seat belt, and both rear belts (left and right) are now subject to inspection.
The NCC warns that the faulty seat belts may significantly reduce the restraint function during an accident, increasing the risk of serious or even fatal injuries to occupants.
“Consumers are advised to contact any VWSA-approved dealership to have the affected components checked and, if necessary, replaced,” said National Consumer Commission or spokesperson Phetho Ntaba.
“These recalls are safety critical; therefore, it is imperative for the consumers to respond with urgency.”
The Commission added that it will continue monitoring the ongoing recall campaign and urges all affected motorists to take immediate action to ensure their safety.
