WATCH: Seven arrested for Clearwater Mall robbery
Gauteng police have arrested seven suspects following a robbery at Clearwater Mall in Roodepoort on Tuesday.
A group of eight gunmen stormed into a jewellery shop at the mall and held the employees at gunpoint.
The suspects robbed made off with a substantial amount of jewellery.
However, they were intercepted by the police and private security officers, and a shootout ensued.
The first four suspects were cornered across the road near the mall, while another three were arrested in Dobsonville following a police chase.
Two police officers and three suspects were wounded during the shootout.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said four firearms were recovered.
"One police officer was treated at the scene while the other police officer was taken to a local medical care centre in a serious but stable condition.
"Some on the jewellery that was taken from the shop have been recovered.”
The suspects are expected to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court soon.
