[WATCH] Vanderbijlpark dumped into darkness after substation explodes
Updated | By Lindiwe Mpanza
The Emfuleni municipality has warned that it might take the rest of the week to restore electricity to large parts of Vanderbijlpark.

Several areas were dumped into darkness after a municipal substation exploded on Tuesday.
The municipality's Stanley Gaba says it seems the fire was caused by a faulty feeder cable, which blew up the circuit breaker and the transformer.
"The affected areas are the Vanderbijlpark CW areas from 1 to 6, Muvhango, Bophelong Ext 1 to 18, Bonanne and Stephanopark,” says Gaba.
Investigations have revealed that the isolator, breakers and high voltage cables were all damaged beyond repair.
Gaba says the explosion could also leave some residents without water.
“It should be also be noted that Ferranti and Reservoir substations have been affected, therefore there is a possibility of water shortages and pressure reduction in some areas.
“We are appealing to the community to use water sparingly during this period.”
Gaba says technicians are hard at work trying to repair the damage.
"We are hoping that by Friday afternoon or even Saturday morning power will be restored. If there are any other changes we will communicate with the community."
