Prophet Bushiri is an honest man, says ECG

The Enlightened Christian Gathering Church (ECG) has described its leader Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary as honest people.

This comes after the two were arrested alongside another couple, Willah and Zethu Mudolo, for alleged fraud and money laundering totalling R102 million.
Mary was arrested on Monday at her home in Sandton, while Bushiri handed himself over on Tuesday.
This is the couple's second arrest for fraud.

They appeared in the high court in Pretoria last week where a separate R15 million fraud and money laundering case was postponed to 2021.
"The prophet and the wife were arrested in 2019 and we have been waiting for the trial and they keep postponing it. We still don't know what is going on. But we believe in the justice system and we believe that justice will be achieved," says the church’s spokesperson Ephriam Nyondo.
"Our members have never panicked because we believe the prophet is an honest person and his wife, they also believe he is a man of God who will go through these things. All we will do is get on our knees, pray and keep the faith."
Nyondo says the Bushiris must be given a fair trial.
