Welkom clinic 'poo protestor' convicted of assault
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The Welkom Magistrates' Court has found a man guilty of assaulting and humiliating a healthcare worker at Thabong Clinic.

In July last year, he visited the clinic and complained about the slow pace of service delivery. He then returned the next day with a bucket full of faeces and poured it on the employee.
An investigation by police later revealed he was out on parole, and this led to his subsequent arrest for violation of parole conditions.
The man will be sentenced later this month.
“We commend her for standing firm in the face of adversity and pursuing justice against her perpetrator,” said Free State Health MEC Monyatso Mahlatsi.
Mahlatsi added the conviction should serve as a warning to those who commit acts of violence against public servants.
“We trust that the sentence will send a clear message that violence and abuse will not be tolerated in our healthcare facilities,
"We urge all patients to remain patient and follow the proper complaints management procedures instead of resorting to violence,” Mahlatsi said.
