Workers, students arrested at UJ protest
Updated | By ANA
Scores of protesting students and workers were arrested for allegedly contravening a court order during a protest at the University of Johannesburg on Friday.

It was not yet clear how many people were arrested as police led protesters into state vehicles at the institution’s Kingsway campus. Former Witwatersrand University’s Student Representative Council (SRC) president Shaeera Kalla was among those arrested.
The protesters did not resist arrest and sang as they climbed onto the police trucks.
Earlier, 13 cleaners were arrested as police executed court interdicts obtained against the protests against outsourcing that started on Monday at UJ.
Police said protesters refused to disperse after they were told to vacate the Kingsway Road on which they had knelt in front of the police.
“They were closing the road that was supposed to be open for the public, and upon consultation with SAPS members, they were given fifteen minutes to disperse or go to an alternative place to continue with the protest, but they resorted to stay and were arrested,” said a police spokesman at the protest. –
