Zanzou torture case: Seventh victim traced
Updated | By Masechaba Sefularo
Another victim in the Zanzou nightclub torture case has been traced, resulting in the delay of the accused’s bid for bail.

A 41-year-old Congolese national made his second appearance before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, where he faces charges linked to the alleged torture of patrons at the popular nightclub.
Following the social media distribution of videos depicting the assault of patrons, six victims came forward and filed criminal complaints with the police.
In the first case, two men alleged that they were assaulted at the establishment in April 2022. A second case was registered when four men alleged that the suspects compelled them to perform sexual acts on themselves in January 2023.
Last week, the accused made his first appearance before court and the matter was postponed to Monday, pending the conclusion of a second identity parade.

On Monday, the media was again barred from revealing the identity of the accused as a third identity parade had been planned.
It emerged in court that authorities had traced a seventh victim, and he only managed to depose to his affidavit on Sunday.
State prosecutor Liana Bosman confirmed the investigating officer had confirmed the accused’s bail information.
Previously said it would oppose the accused’s release on bail.
The accused faces eight counts of compelled sexual assault and six counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
More charges could be added as investigations continue.
The matter was postponed to 28 March.
