Zuma challenges ANC expulsion in court
Updated | By Selaki Ledwaba
Former President Jacob Zuma has approached the High Court to challenge the termination of his ANC membership.

This comes as the country marks the 70th Anniversary of the adoption of the Freedom Charter.
Now the leader of the Umkhonto Wesizwe(MK) party, Zuma has accused President Cyril Ramaphosa of a ‘kangaroo court process’ that led to his expulsion in the African National Congress (ANC) late last year.
In a statement by the MK, Zuma said his membership of the ANC, which spans 65 years, cannot be erased by what he calls "puppets of the Democratic Alliance".
“It was indeed the sell-out tendencies of these traitors which led to the formation of the MK Party on 16 December 2023 and the removal of the ANC from power 5 months later in the May 2024 elections.”
“The symbolic institution of this application on Freedom Charter Day serves as a reminder of the unforgivable betrayal of the people by the ANC of Ramaphosa which has reversed even the small gains achieved since 1994," reads the MKP statement.
The Party says it fully supports Zuma's latest court bid, and it hopes for a dual membership -- should the courts rule in the former president's favour.
“Such an outcome will bring us closer to the much-needed unity of black people in the centuries old struggle for total liberation and the return of the land to its rightful owners, the African people as a whole.”
