Zuma opens Tourism Indaba
President Jacob Zuma has rung the bell to mark the official opening of the Tourism Indaba 2017 at the Durban ICC.
Durban will be the home of the Tourism Indaba for the next five years.
Zuma has told delegates that in 2015, the tourism sector contributed R375 billion to the country's economy.
He has shed some light on government's 5 in 5 tourism growth strategy, saying they are working to achieve further growth in South Africa's tourism.
"We want to attract five million more international arrivals and domestic tourists within the next five years. To achieve these goals, we are strengthening existing markets while also developing and investing into new international markets such as the Middle East and Asia," says Zuma.
Zuma also says tourism is currently responsible for 1.5 million jobs and they plan to grow employment in the sector to over 2.5 million by 2025.
