Patrice Motsepe to lead CAF for another four years

Patrice Motsepe has been re-elected unopposed as Confederation of African Football president for a second term.

Credited with improving CAF’s finances and professionalism, he was re-elected at the 14th Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo.
Motsepe, a mining magnate and Mamelodi Sundowns owner, first took office in 2021.
While leading CAF, he stepped aside as Sundowns president, with his son Tlhopie Motsepe now chairing the club.
He will be serving as CAF president until 2029.
Motsepe was elected by acclamation in Morocco four years ago, succeeding Malagasy Ahmad Ahmad, who had been suspended by FIFA over financial misconduct.
CAF secretary general Veron Mosengo-Omba is among those who have credited Motsepe with improving the organisation’s finances and governance.
"Patrice was a gift for African football. In 2021, CAF was a toxic body. He brought good governance to all levels of the organisation," Mosengo-Omba said ahead of the meeting.
