Roos added to Springboks squad after Hanekom injury

Stormers loose forward Evan Roos was added on Sunday to the South Africa squad preparing to play the Barbarians in an exhibition match and Italy and Georgia in Tests.

His inclusion increased the number of Springboks in camp to 55 and came a day after another loose forward who was part of the squad, Bulls' Cameron Hanekom, suffered a potentially serious injury in a club game.
Hanekom was injured during the Bulls' 25-13 victory over the Sharks in a United Rugby Championship (URC) semi-final in Pretoria. They face Leinster in the final on Saturday in Dublin.
Considered one of the rising stars in South African rugby, Hanekom was later seen using crutches with his right leg bandaged.
Bulls coach Jake White said he could not reveal the severity of the injury yet, but has ruled Hanekom out of the URC title decider.
Hanekom, 23, made his debut against Wales in the Springboks' final match of last season. He is considered a potential rival to first choice No. 8 Jasper Wiese.
Roos, 25, has made seven Test appearances since his debut in 2022. He can also operate as a flanker or lock.
Record four-time Rugby World Cup winners South Africa play the Barbarians in Cape Town on June 28, then Italy in Pretoria and Gqeberha on July 5 and 12 and Georgia in Mbombela on July 19.
South Africa face Argentina, Australia and New Zealand twice each in the Rugby Championship between August and October. Away fixtures against France, Italy, Ireland and Wales in November complete their 2025 schedule.
