SA Rugby offers support after France youth player swept out to sea

SA Rugby has offered support to French rugby and the family of player Medhi Narjissi, who was swept out to sea during a water recovery session at Cape Point on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old is part of the squad competing in a youth tournament in Cape Town.
Authorities said Narjissi may have been swimming at Diaz Beach, near the Cape of Good Hope, when strong rip currents swept him into the surf zone.
According to the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), a teammate who unsuccessfully attempted to rescue him managed to return to shore uninjured.
“We cannot begin to comprehend the sorrow the family must be feeling at this moment,” said Mr Mark Alexander, president of the South African Rugby Union.
“Please know that the entire rugby fraternity stands with you in mourning the loss of Medhi. This devastating news has been felt deeply across the rugby community here in South Africa and around the world.”
Alexander said that SA Rugby had offered every support it could to Mehdi’s family, who are en route to South Africa.
