Weekends are meant for relaxing, reconnecting, and recharging.

But between errands, chores, and endless screen time, couples often forget to make space for what really matters: each other.

A couples psychologist, Egna Perez, shared five habits that the happiest partners swear by, and they're simpler than you might think.

Here are five things the happiest couples do over weekends:

1. Enjoy quality time together without devices

Sitting next to each other while scrolling through Instagram doesn't count as quality time. The happiest couples enjoy moments completely offline, without phones and notifications.

Whether it's over a peaceful coffee, a stroll through the neighbourhood, or cooking dinner together, being present shows that you are each other’s priority.

2. Have enough together-time and alone time

After a hectic week, it's normal to want a little space. But the trick is to find that balance and enjoy your own thing while still being together.

This is referred to as "parallel play."

3. Build rituals

The strongest couples build little routines they can count on.

This could be making pancakes on Saturdays, enjoying Sunday morning markets, or even writing up a meal plan together.

These shared rituals bring a sense of stability and connection.

Even mundane things like doing laundry or grocery shopping can be bonding moments when you do them as a team.
It’s not about what you do, but who you’re doing it with.

4. Sexual intimacy

You might want to "rest" or not "do too much," but physical connection should be a priority.

It's about reconnecting, releasing tension, and reminding each other that you still have that connection.

Scheduling intimacy doesn't kill the mood; it removes the stress of "fitting it in."

5. Sharing a good laugh

Laughter might be the most underrated relationship tool. A silly inside joke, a TikTok dance-off, or just poking fun at something random can bring couples closer than any romantic dinner ever could.

The happiest couples laugh a lot.

It breaks up the stress, eases tension, and brings out that playful spark that first made you fall for each other.
