50-hour water maintenance coming for these Joburg areas
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
Residents have been reminded of a 50-hour water maintenance operation that will affect several areas.

Johannesburg Water has issued a public alert ahead of planned maintenance work that will impact parts of the city's water supply from 30 June to 2 July 2025.
The maintenance will focus on critical upgrades to the Eikenhof and Zwartkopjes systems, and some residents may experience low water pressure or complete outages during this period.
"Residents may experience poor pressure or no water during the maintenance period. However, arrangements will be made for alternative supply to affected areas," the utility confirmed.

Johannesburg Water is urging residents to store enough water in advance and to use water wisely while the work is underway. The utility also cautioned that full system recovery could take several days after the repairs are completed.
Eikenhof system – 48-hour repair
Work will begin at 5 am on Monday, 30 June, to fix a pipe leak at the Zuikerbosch Plant. Pumping will be reduced by 50 percent during the maintenance.
Affected areas include:
- Hursthill, Brixton and Crosby (Commando System)
- Lenasia, Randburg and Roodepoort systems
- Soweto, Crown Gardens, Eagles Nest and Aeroton reservoirs
Zwartkopjes system – 50-hour valve replacement
Valve replacement work at Zwartkopjes Station will also begin at 5 am on Monday and continue for 50 hours. There will be no water pumping from this system during the maintenance window.
Affected areas include:
- Crown Gardens, Eagles Nest, Parktown, Berea
- Forrest Hill, Alan Manor, Naturena
- Hector Norris Pump Station
While the maintenance is essential, Joburg Water says residents should plan for a gradual return to normal supply.

"It may take several days for the system to fully recover," the utility noted.
This update follows recent operations by City Power and Joburg Water to disconnect illegal utility connections.
According to The Citizen, officials raided a Houghton property where 90 undocumented foreign nationals were found living in unsafe conditions.
The property, located on Tenth Avenue, was disconnected from water and electricity services following intervention by JMPD and the city's public safety team.
