Ford has become almost notorious for its vehicle recalls in South Africa and around the world.

According to TimesLive, the American carmaker has announced yet another recall, this time affecting 338 vehicles across Southern Africa.

These include Transit vehicles built between 2024 and 2025, and Mustangs built between 2021 and 2022.

The automaker confirmed that it is currently contacting owners of the affected vehicles.

Once owners reach out to a dealer, the necessary repairs will be carried out free of charge.

To check if your vehicle is being recalled, visit the Ford website here and enter your VIN in the search bar. Alternatively, you can call 0860-011-022 or +27 12-843-5824 (for international callers).

Transit vehicles

Ford has announced that five of its Transit vehicles in South Africa are being recalled.

The reason is that the passenger airbag must be replaced, as a filter in the inflator may not meet the required thickness specification.

The automaker stressed that this issue does not affect vehicle operation under normal driving conditions. However, if an accident occurs that triggers airbag deployment, the non-compliant filters could restrict the flow of gas from the inflator.

Mustangs

A total of 330 Mustangs have been identified for recall in South Africa, including two in Namibia and one in Botswana.

Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) has identified a possible drop in fuel pressure and flow from the sports car’s fuel tank, caused by failure of the low-pressure fuel pump.

The issue may result from internal contamination of the jet pump, which increases internal friction and heightens susceptibility to vapour lock. This condition can interrupt fuel delivery to the engine and potentially cause the engine to stall.

Wider recall numbers

According to TimesLive, about 30,000 Ford vehicles have been recalled in Southern Africa in 2025 alone.

This figure, however, is far lower than the 1.5 million vehicles recalled in the United States during 2025 for a range of technical issues.
