Hidden Gmail feature that helps you block spam emails

There's nothing more frustrating than having to sift through endless spam when you're just trying to find an important email.

Spam can quickly clutter your entire Gmail inbox, with multiple notifications popping up throughout the day, only for you to discover it's yet another mailing list you accidentally or unknowingly subscribed to.

Fortunately, Gmail now offers a way to counter some of this spam.

The new "Manage subscriptions" feature lets users see and manage all their mailing list subscriptions in one place, making it much easier to unsubscribe from unwanted senders.

"In Gmail, you can manage all your active email subscriptions in one place. When you unsubscribe from a sender in 'Manage subscriptions,' Gmail unsubscribes you from all active mailing lists related to the sender," says the official Gmail website.

No more hunting for tiny "unsubscribe" links at the bottom of emails, only to receive another message from the same company the next day.

Note: It may take a few days for the sender to fully remove you from their mailing list, so you might still receive some emails during that period.

How to use Gmail's "Manage Subscriptions" feature:

Desktop

  1. On your computer, go to Gmail.
  2. On the left, click "More" then "Manage subscriptions."
  3. On the right, next to the number of emails recently sent from the sender, click "Unsubscribe."

Android

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app.
  2. At the top left, tap the Menu (three horizontal lines/burger button), then tap "Manage subscriptions."
  3. On the right, next to the sender, tap "Unsubscribe."

iPhone and iPad

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app.
  2. At the top left, tap the Menu (three horizontal lines/burger button), then tap "Manage subscriptions."

Gmail notes that this feature is still rolling out and may not yet be available to all users. Keep checking your Gmail app for updates.
