Nothing is quite as South African as our joint education of the Afrikaans "trappe van vergelyking" (degrees of comparison).

No matter your race, culture, or language, this is something most South Africans were taught in school, and it still makes for some hilarious banter and content between residents.

South African artist Keith Juluka took these uniquely South African words and added them to yet another hilarious song.

Juluka is known on social media for creating satirical songs, often highly relatable for South Africans.

Even his Instagram bio states: "I make funny songs."

On Tuesday, 12 August, Juluka stopped by Breakfast with Martin Bester to talk about his viral songs.

He told Martin that he had always struggled to remember the lyrics to songs, so he just made up his own lyrics.

This inspired him to create his own songs with funny lyrics.

One of his recent songs sees Jaluka reminding South Africans of the Afrikaans "Trappe van Vergelyking," something most of us would remember from Afrikaans class.

Captioning the video, Jaluka said: "Me when I learned something new at school."

The song is quite simple, but it really makes an impact as the lyrics go:

"Trappe van. Trappe van. Trappe van vergelyking."

Jaluka then continues to list a few Afrikaans degrees of comparison:

  • Klein, kleiner, kleinste
  • Groot, groter, grootse
  • Vinnig, vinniger, vinnigste
  • Mooi, mooier, mooiste

This truly South African song had social media users in stitches, and this might just be the perfect thing to show students and children studying Afrikaans.

"We would have all passed if you released this in high school… distinctions," said one Instagram user.

"My kids LOVE THIS and you are a legennnndddd," commented an Afrikaans First Additional Language teacher.
