How much Gerda Steyn earned for winning Comrades 2025
Ever wondered how much someone earns for winning the Comrades Marathon?
Tete Dijana and Gerda Steyn once again left South Africa beaming with pride when both athletes clinched victory at this year's Comrades Marathon on Sunday, 8 June.
Dijana, who claimed his third win after back-to-back victories in 2022 and 2023, crossed the finish line in a blistering time of 5:25:28.

Meanwhile, the unstoppable Gerda Steyn won her fourth Comrades title after clocking an impressive 5:51:19.
This makes Steyn the second woman in history (after eight-time winner Elena Nurgalieva) to win the race more than three times.
But just how much does a win at the Comrades Marathon really bring in?
According to The Citizen, the first-place prize money stood at R874,000 for both Dijana and Steyn.

They also received additional bonuses:
- R500,000 for setting the fastest average pace ever recorded in the men’s and women's down run events
- R220,000 as the first South African runners to finish
Steyn also earned an extra R50,000 for hitting the Cell C Hot Spot first.
Based on the above amounts, Dijana walked away with about R1,594,000, while Steyn took home approximately R1,644,000.
