Lion kills well-known businessman during safari trip

A well-known businessman was reportedly killed after he stepped out of his tent to use the toilet.

A prominent Namibian businessman, identified as Bernd Kebbel, was reportedly killed by a lion while on safari in the remote northwest of Namibia.

According to online reports, the 59-year-old, his wife, and friends were camping in Namibia’s Hoanib River near Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp in the Sesfontein area.

Kebbel reportedly stepped out of his tent to use the toilet on Friday morning, May 30, when he was attacked and killed by a lioness.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Environment, Ndeshipanda Hamunyela, said that other people in the group managed to chase the lion away, but unfortunately, Kebbel was already dead.

According to CBS, a police spokesperson said that authorities were at the scene, “and a full report will be submitted in due course.”

The Ministry of Environment and Tourism stated that the lioness was unfortunately put down on Sunday, June 1, as she reportedly posed a continued threat to visitors and the community.

Kebbel reportedly also owned the Offroad Centre, which specialises in supplies for off-road vehicles.
