Thousands of child actors responded to the open casting call for the new 'Harry Potter' series, which was announced last year.

While many big names for other characters in the series have already been revealed, many people were waiting in anticipation to find out who would play the lead trio.

Well, the wait is finally over, as they were announced on Tuesday, 27 May.

Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton will be Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will portray Ron Weasley.

All three actors are newcomers to Hollywood.

"After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron," said showrunner and executive producer Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod.

"The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.

"We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It's been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there."

The trio will be joined by Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), Nick Frost (Rubeus Hagrid), John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), and Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape) in the series, which is executive produced by J.K. Rowling.

American pay television service HBO also confirmed that the series "will be a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter books."
