The couple first made their relationship public in 2023, and their engagement prompted congratulations from around the world.

Their engagement post on Instagram has already garnered more than 24 million likes.

Even former U.S. President Donald Trump put aside his long-standing criticism of the pop star.

"I wish them a lot of luck," Trump said.

"I think he's a great player. A great guy. And I think she's a terrific person."

"So, I wish them a lot of luck."

Taylor and Travis' relationship has been one of the most high-profile celebrity romances in recent times, often making headlines.

According to AFP, here are five things to know about their love story:

1. Taylor's Version

Swift’s journey to becoming the world’s biggest pop star has been full of twists and turns — and not just the romantic missteps that fuelled her hit songs until she met Kelce.

A teenage country music sensation, she won her first Grammy at just 20-years-old before pivoting to pop.

Wild success and scrutiny followed. Swift endured a high-profile feud with Kanye West and later re-recorded her early song catalogue to reclaim ownership from a private equity firm.

High-profile romances with Hollywood actors and pop stars came and went, with references to Jake Gyllenhaal, Tom Hiddleston, Joe Jonas, Calvin Harris, and Harry Styles all rumoured to appear in her lyrics.

Last year, she won a fourth Grammy for Album of the Year — the most by any artist — and wrapped up the highest-grossing concert tour of all time.

2. NFL Great

Kelce’s road to American football greatness has had challenges of its own.

While playing college football, he was suspended for marijuana use.

His older brother, Jason, lobbied coaching staff to give Travis another chance and later vouched for him again when Travis was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013.

As the Chiefs went from struggling franchise to NFL dynasty, Kelce became a vital part of their success and is now considered one of the greatest tight ends in the sport’s history.

He has won three Super Bowls — and lost two, including an agonising defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles this year that ended dreams of a historic Chiefs "three-peat."

3. How It Began

During Swift's $2 billion-grossing 'Eras' tour, handing out homemade friendship bracelets with beaded messages became a cherished fan ritual.

Kelce took it a step further, attempting to meet Swift backstage at a 2023 concert in Kansas City and pass her a bracelet bearing his phone number.

He was disappointed to learn that Swift doesn’t do meet-and-greets — even for NFL stars — before or after shows "because she has to save her voice," he explained on his podcast shortly afterwards.

But Swift was charmed when she later learned about the romantic gesture. “We started hanging out right after that,” she told TIME magazine.

4. Controversy

Swift quickly became a fixture at Kelce’s Chiefs games.

As television cameras cut to her reactions with increasing regularity, viewership and ticket sales for the already hugely popular sport skyrocketed.

But not everyone was impressed. Some football traditionalists complained that the sport was turning into a showbiz circus, while right-wing conspiracy theorists even claimed the entire relationship was staged as “Democrat propaganda.”

The distractions didn’t seem to bother Kelce or the Chiefs, who went on to win that season’s Super Bowl.

Although Swift endorsed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in 2024, her Republican opponent Donald Trump ultimately won the U.S. election — and still wished the couple “a lot of luck” when asked about their engagement.

5. Engagement

A joint Instagram post on Tuesday showed pictures of Kelce proposing on one knee in a flower-laden garden, with Swift wearing an enormous diamond ring.

No date or details about the wedding have been revealed.

It comes at a busy time for both: Kelce — having brushed off retirement rumours — is preparing for the NFL season’s kick-off next month, while Swift is set to release a new album, 'The Life of a Showgirl', in October.
