Police use SAPS vehicle to escort student to matric dance
Police officers have come under fire after using an official SAPS vehicle to escort a student to their matric dance.
Each year, many matric students across South Africa go all out to make their arrival at their matric dance as unique and memorable as possible.
These arrivals have become something of an institution, with each year's entrances trying to outdo the last.
This tradition has led to some spectacular arrivals that often make news headlines.

The latest to capture the nation's attention involved a learner being escorted by police officers in an official SAPS vehicle.
A video posted on TikTok shows a police van pulling up at a matric farewell drop-off point.
With sirens blaring, officers step out of the vehicle carrying large firearms before escorting the student down a red carpet.

While the entrance was undeniably dramatic and unique, it sparked controversy.
According to The South African, a KwaZulu-Natal police officer has come under scrutiny for using an official state vehicle in this way.
Many social media users criticised the stunt, arguing that government resources should not be used for personal events.

"They must be held accountable; this is unacceptable!" one user commented.
"State vehicles, which taxpayers pay for, should not be used for any non-SAPS-related events," wrote another.
"This is why vans are always unavailable. They're attending matric dances!" another added.
Interestingly, The South African also reported that members of the public are, in fact, permitted to request police escorts for private events.
