"Rope running" refers to the unique athletic endeavour of running while simultaneously skipping rope. It's not a new sport, but rather an unconventional combination of two activities.

This technique was popularised by endurance athlete Marissa Groenewald, also known as "@theroperunner"

It's by no means an easy exercise, and people often ask Marissa why she would put herself through this form of running.

The reason is incredibly powerful and very relevant to events taking place around the world.

Marissa combines running marathons and ultra-marathons with skipping rope, often raising awareness and funds for Love Justice International, an organisation fighting human trafficking.

It is estimated that millions fall victim to trafficking, although only around 50,000 to 100,000 cases are identified annually.

According to the University of Johannesburg, trafficking affects girls at a slightly higher rate than boys, with females accounting for 55.5% of all trafficked individuals in South Africa, and males comprising 44.5%.
